Making Renovation Simple: OneClickReno Meets Finnish Stakeholders in Helsinki

On 5 June 2025, the International Union of Property Owners (UIPI), representing OneClickRENO and other EU-funded initiatives including BuildUPspeed, CondoReno and Renpower, brought together Finnish property stakeholders for a dedicated discussion on how to make energy renovations a practical reality, especially in light of the upcoming implementation of the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).

The meeting, hosted at the premises of Kiinteistöliitto in Helsinki, focused on the concrete challenges homeowners and housing associations face in the Finnish context. A number of concerns were raised:

  • In rural areas, declining populations and property values make renovation financially unviable, in contrast with growing urban centres like Helsinki.

  • Banks are increasingly hesitant to finance energy renovations, which are seen as high-risk, while public incentives have not been strong enough to offset the costs.

  • Small-scale property owners lack access to coordinated guidance and support. The absence of accessible, integrated one-stop-shop (OSS) services was seen as a major barrier.

  • Finland’s aging homeowner population often lacks the motivation or capacity to engage in complex renovation processes.

The workshop also highlighted the need for smarter digital solutions, such as Building Renovation Passports, to streamline planning and decision-making. These themes align directly with the core objectives of OneClickReno, which aims to develop integrated tools and services to make the renovation journey easier, faster, and more accessible.

The session served as a space for open dialogue and practical insight, focusing on three pillars:

  • The potential of prefabricated, industrialised renovation methods

  • The urgency of establishing user-friendly, integrated one-stop-shop services

  • The need for digital tools to support informed decision-making

The event concluded with a shared commitment to continue fostering collaboration across public and private sectors to activate the market and deliver on the EU’s renovation ambitions.
